What is an FXB file?

FXB files mostly belong to HALion by Steinberg. FXB is the file extension for a soundbank used by digital audio workstations (DAWs) that support Virtual Studio Technology (VST). Virtual Studio Technology is an audio plug-in software interface that allows the integration of software audio synthesizers and audio effects in DAWs. The soundbank stores a bank, or group, of presets used to produce sound effects. FXB stands for FX Bank. The file is used to install multiple presets. A single sound effect preset is stored in an FXP (FX Preset) file. FXB files are plugin-specific, which means that a preset created for a specific plugin will not be compatible with other plugins. In order to use an FXB file, the respective plugin must be installed. Two softwares that support the FXB format are Cubase and HALion from Steinberg. Steinberg has now replaced both FXB and FXP files with VSPRESET files, but the older formats are still supported by several DAWs.

How do you open FXB files?

You need a suitable software like HALion to open an FXB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
