What is a GCM file?

GCM files mostly belong to Groupmail by Groupmail. A GCM file is a message store used by Groupmail email marketing automation software. Another type of GCM file contains the image (ROM) of a GameCube video game. This file is saved in a miniDVD-based format. It contains an exact copy of all game data extracted from GameCube's internal storage or a game disc. GameCube console has been discontinued. However, Dolphin emulator can load and run a video game saved in a GCM.

How to open GCM files

You need a suitable software like Groupmail to open a GCM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GCM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GCM file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The GCM file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in GCM files:

• 15% of all GCM files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". The file contains sections Audit Trail, File Comment, File Property, Extended Information, GUMM_Information, LSS Acquisition Disp Settings, LSS BaselineCheck Parameters, LSS Data Load Format, LSS Data Processing-1, LSS Data Processing-2, LSS QAQC Processing-1, LSS QAQC Processing-2, LSS SST-1, LSS SST-2, Mass Data Load Format, Mass Data Processing, QLM Data Processing, TLM Data Processing, ICFObjectData, LSSExtStgObj Param and AOC Instrument Parameters. The average file size is 420 KB with most files being between 69 KB and 620 KB in size.
• 10% of all GCM files start with the magic bytes BGIB, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 130 KB to 7 MB in size, with a median of 360 KB. The files contain the following words: BGIB, -wii -ignoremissingtranslationtext -disableerrors -m, johnsanderson and quiet. The file name 05_05.gcm or 10_01.gcm is typical for these files.
