Opening a GDB File
The GDB file type is primarily associated with GNU Source-Level Debugger.
What is a GDB file?
How do you open GDB files?
You need a suitable software like GNU Source-Level Debugger to open a GDB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GDB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GDB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

GDB file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the GDB files looks like this:
The GDB file extension is used very often and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all GDB files start with the bytes 01 00 39 30, which are crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. GDB files can be up to 3 GB in size, but are often around 1 MB - 250 MB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. These files are often associated with database, data, officine, sample, orga, tsstorage, vettrak, sklad and base.
- 40% of all GDB files belong to MapSource GPS Waypoint Database. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 2 KB to 230 KB. The files contain the following words: MsRcf, MapSource, 08:33:45 and Oct 14 2010. Files like these are about route, markirane, fruska, garmin, staze, gora and ride.
All other GDB files (20%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. GVA/GVA2000 Author lecture, HP Phone/Database/Note database, Source, SDC, CBD and This. Tagged as track, zone, waypoints, survey, creek, hotel, miles, trail or road. If you want to find out which format your GDB file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .gdb file to analyze".

a gdb custom command script is a special file format by The GNU Project and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GDB files
- Associate the GDB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open custom command scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest GDB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the The GNU Project manufacturer website after an available GNU Source-Level Debugger update.
- To make sure that your GDB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GDB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
