How to open a GMI file
You need a suitable software like Game engine to open a GMI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. GMI file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. - 20% of all GMI files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "[GMIFILE_ASCII]" at the beginning. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 110 KB. The keywords EXTENT, [GMIFILE_ASCII], _INDEX !!!!!, _VERSION 2, _FILETYPE TER, COSYSVER NN2000, COSYS EUR89 32, COSYS_EPSG 25832 and GUID are typical for these files. Examples of file names are Gemini_VA.gmi. These files are attributed to gemini, innm and built.
