What is a GMK file?

GMK files mostly belong to GameMaker Studio. GMK files are GameMaker Studio project files that contain the core structure of a game project developed with GameMaker. They hold the game’s assets, scripts, and settings in a proprietary format that the GameMaker Studio IDE understands.

How to open GMK files

You need a suitable software like GameMaker Studio to open a GMK file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GMK file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GMK file directly in the browser:. 95% of all GMK files use the same file format, which have the signature 91 D5 12 00. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 12 KB and 9 MB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Some examples of file names are Spelunky.gmk. Such files sometimes refer to game, engine, presence, discord, silver, gmate, lost and rich.
