What is an HPF file?

HPF files mostly belong to HighScore Plus. HPF files store specialized scientific data.
Some HPF files are X-ray diffraction data files created by HighScore Plus. These use the zlib compression method to pack complex measurements and calibration details from X-ray experiments.

How to open an HPF file

You need a suitable software like HighScore Plus to open an HPF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HPF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HPF file directly in the browser:. HPF file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the HPF files looks like this:

The HPF file type includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 45% of all HPF files are using the well-known zlib file format to store the data. Zlib is a compressed archive file format that supports several different data compression algorithms. zlib is also a crucial component of many software platforms, including Linux, macOS, and iOS. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 120 KB in size and range from 38 KB to 310 KB. The file type is relatively new. These files can be linked to nardoni and sample.
• 30% of all HPF files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. HPF files are between 450 KB and 68 MB in size. The keywords RecordingDate, datx, HeaderInfoV1, SetRunID, TestRunID and TestRunName are typical for these files. These files are attributed to experiment, store, plot, data, quickdaq and number.
