What is an HPG file?

HPG files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. HPG is the filename extension of files containing ASCII characters and plotter control commands coded in Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HPGL or HP-GL). The command categories in such HPG files include vector groups, character groups, line types, set-up, axes, coordinates, and the configuration status of the file. The content of a typical HPG file is written as multiple lines of two-character codes which define the property (e.g. pen down), font, paths, shapes (e.g. circles), codes, escape sequences, and other information which define a printer plotter document saved as a vector image. The instructions in a HP-GL HPG file is mainly sub-divided into HP-GL instructions and device-control instructions. HP-GL/2 added support for line-width and binary encoding to HPGL format. HPG filename extension is also associated with the AES 256-encrypted container file which contains all photos encrypted using Hide Photos image encryption software. The encrypted HPG image container is named storage.hpg.

How can I open an HPG file?

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open an HPG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HPG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HPG file directly in the browser:.
