What is an HSD file?

HSD files mostly belong to Houdini FX.

The HSD file extension is used in several specialized contexts. The most common type is a Harmony Scene Design file, which is stored as a compressed (ZIP) archive that holds scene design data.
In this case, the file may also be referred to as a Houdini FX state file, saving visual effects or animation work. Other variants include:

How to open an HSD file

You need a suitable software like Houdini FX to open an HSD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HSD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HSD file directly in the browser:. HSD file format:

To find out what program is needed to open HSD files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the HSD files comes to the following conclusion:

The HSD file type mainly uses a defined HSD format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 70% of all HSD files use the ZIP algorithm, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one HSD file. An HSD file includes 5 to 20 files. Common included file names are \temp\flayer_1, \temp\flayer_2, \temp\flayer_3, \temp\hsd.json, \temp\preview.png, \temp\previewthumb, \temp\project.json and \temp\project.json.ok. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The average file size is 2 MB with most files being between 480 KB and 11 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: temp and flayer. Such HSD files store data about tulo, titre, sans, senza, titolo, titellos, nombre, niezatytu and owany.
• 4% of all HSD files have the same signature 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 A8. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. HSD files are between 410 bytes and 500 bytes in size. Some examples of file names are UNTITLED.hsd. Files like these are about resistance.
