What is an IIQ file?

IIQ files mostly belong to Capture One by Capture One. IIQ is the filename extension of RAW images compressed and stored using the Intelligent Image Quality format and compression standard used by Capture One tethered photography/photo-editing software and Phase One high-resolution cameras. These IIQ files contain minimally compressed graphical data directly captured by the CMOS sensor on the camera. An IIQ file can be compressed as a completely lossless (IIQ L) image or a lossy (IIQ S (Smart)) image. Lossless IIQ images provide the highest possible image quality as it captures images as 16bit signals from the CMOS sensor. Lossless IIQ images can also be captured as 14-bit signals which result in a smaller size. The lossy-compressed IIQ images provide high quality graphics and is in fact "near-lossless". Phase One digital cameras in the IQ4, iXM-RS, iXM, iXU-RS, and iXU series can be used to capture high resolution images in IIQ format when tethered to Capture One.

How do you open IIQ files?

You need a suitable software like Capture One to open an IIQ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IIQ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IIQ file directly in the browser:. Associate the IIQ file extension with the correct application.
