What is an IM2 file?

IM2 files mostly belong to DICOM by NEMA. IM2 is a medical image in DICOM format. DICOM is the abbreviation for "Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine" and is an international standard for storing, processing, printing, displaying, and transmitting medical images such as MRI and CT scans. It was first developed by the joint efforts of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The current version was developed by the DICOM Standards Committee (www.dicomstandard.org).

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 180 bytes to 280 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0=Invert st=0 r=1 g=1 b=1, [ImageOperations], Brightness=50, Contrast=45, Gamma=20, [Luminance], Lower, Type=0, Upper, [GraphicOverlay], [ZoomGray], 00 units and Info dpm.
