Opening IM2 Files
The IM2 file type is primarily associated with DICOM.
What is an IM2 file?
How to open an IM2 file
You need a suitable software like DICOM from NEMA to open an IM2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IM2 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IM2 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

IM2 file extension format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the IM2 files:
The IM2 file ending mainly uses a special format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 90% of all IM2 files are based on the popular DICOM file format. DICOM is short for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. DICOM files are used to store, exchange, and transmit medical images from radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and radiation therapy, but also personal data about the patient. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 260 KB to 10 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: DICM. An example of a file name is IM10..
- 3% of all IM2 files store the data in the config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 180 bytes to 280 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0=Invert st=0 r=1 g=1 b=1, [ImageOperations], Brightness=50, Contrast=45, Gamma=20, [Luminance], Lower, Type=0, Upper, [GraphicOverlay], [ZoomGray], 00 units and Info dpm.
All the rest of the IM2 files (7%) have different formats. If you want to find out what your IM2 file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for IM2 File Extension
an im2 medical image is a special file format by NEMA and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IM2 files
- Associate the IM2 file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open medical images. Because only the current version supports the latest IM2 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the NEMA manufacturer website after an available DICOM update.
- To make sure that your IM2 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
