What is an IRS file?

IRS files mostly belong to foobar2000. IRS files are mainly used to store impulse response data in a RIFF container. This means the file holds a digital recording of a space’s acoustic response used in audio processing.
Depending on the source, an IRS file can be one of several types:

Impulse Response Audio: The file holds measurements for simulating reverb and room acoustics. Open these with a digital audio workstation or a convolution reverb plugin.

Game Level Data: In other cases, an IRS file contains level or scenario info for Unreal Engine 4 projects. For such files, the Unreal Engine editor is required.

IRS file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ.
