JLF format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the JLF files:
JLF is rarely used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 35% of all JLF files use the popular UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 18 KB in size and range from 500 bytes to 230 KB. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. !FILE_FORMAT=1.0, !VERSION=1.0.0, GROUP, Scenario and Year. Files like these are about journal.
- 15% of all JLF files start with the bytes !VERSION=1, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain text and words, not binary data. Most of these files are 110 bytes to 52 KB in size. The files contain the following words: !VERSION=1, DIMENSION_ORDER, Entity, Account, Intercompany, Movement, FCCS, JOURNAL, GROUP, Actual, Custom2 and Journal Input. Some examples of file names are Journals.jlf. Such files sometimes refer to export.
The remaining 50% of all JLF files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. FILE. These files sometimes refer to mobilenet, data, meta or boot. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your JLF file!

a jlf data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with JLF files
- Associate the JLF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest JLF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Oracle Hyperion Financial Management update.
- To make sure that your JLF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .JLF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
