JNL file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the JNL files produces the following result:
JNL is a very commonly used file extension and covers a large number of different file formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 9% of all JNL files start with the bytes # -*- coding: mbcs -*- from crucial for this file format. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. JNL files can be up to 12 MB in size, but are often around 6 KB - 1 MB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. # -*- coding: mbcs -*-, from part import *, from assembly import , from interaction import , from load import *, from material import , from mesh import *, from section import , from step import * and from op. These files are often associated with model, analysis, finite and beam.
- 8% of all JNL files start with the magic bytes Thursday, , which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. JNL files are between 150 bytes and 22 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Thursday, DATASET, FILE and NAME. The file name statistics.jnl is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to spss.
All other JNL files (83%) have no consistent format, the following 21 formats exist: XML, JetDB, Tuesday, Mon, Wednesday, BIND, Friday, Sunday, Saturday and Pageflex. Sometimes used for stubblefield, last, redo, external, checkpoint or redd. You can get all the details of your JNL file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .jnl file to view" above.

How to solve problems with JNL files
- Associate the JNL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open journal log files. Because only the current version supports the latest JNL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SPSS update.
- To make sure that your JNL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
