What is a KVA file?

KVA files mostly belong to Kinovea.

• Kinovea Video Analysis: This KVA file is used by Kinovea to store video analysis data in an XML format.
  It records measurements, markers, and movement details. You can open it with the Kinovea software (Kinovea website).
• Key Value Archive: In some cases, KVA files serve as a simple key value archive. They can log event data or configuration settings used by systems such as Kaspersky or the Kvaerner Process System.
• Power Analysis Report: A variant of KVA files holds power analysis reports produced by devices like the MV-90XI. More details are available at the manufacturer site (Dentinstruments).
• Erlang Crash Dump: Some KVA files capture crash dump data from Erlang applications. Information about these crash dumps can be found in the Erlang documentation (Erlang docs).

How to open KVA files

You need a suitable software like Kinovea to open a KVA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your KVA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a KVA file directly in the browser:. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. KVA is not a common file extension and mainly uses a defined KVA format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 85% of all KVA files store the data in the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. Files like these are sometimes connected to movie, angle, video and kinovea.
• 10% of all KVA files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters " MV-90XI " at the beginning. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The average file size is 2 KB with most files being between 2 KB and 66 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: PAGE, START TIME, SUMMARY ID, 3998523111T   GROUP, MV-90XI   KVA PEAKS SUMMARY REPORT 2021, NOV 12 10 and PEAKS SUMMARY.
