Opening an LCF File
The LCF file type is primarily associated with Graphisoft ArchiCAD.
What is an LCF file?
How can I open an LCF file?
You need a suitable software like Graphisoft ArchiCAD to open an LCF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LCF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LCF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert LCF files:
- Graphisoft ArchiCAD
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. LCF files are often referred to as Graphisoft ArchiCAD cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- HP-95LX Datacomm Script File
- Linker Control FileLinker Control File (Norton Guides compiler)
LCF file format:
To find out what program is needed to open LCF files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the LCF files comes to the following conclusion:
The LCF file ending is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all LCF files start with the magic bytes GLCFeÀz, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 4 MB with most files being between 370 KB and 21 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as GLCFe, MAIN and FLDR. Such LCF files store data about macros, library, vicaima, construction, wall, surface, windows and doors.
- 10% of all LCF files start with the magic bytes Logger Compact Data File v1.00 , which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 1 KB. The files contain the following words: Logger Compact Data File. A common filename is 2020-06-01.lcf.
All other LCF files (45%) have different formats, frequently e.g. LICEcap Format lossless video, config, Folio and Copyright. Often described as iithacdblks, license, pika, accessory, archicad, equitone, catalog, ecophon, abloy, assa, demo, navi or roof. Just click the "Choose your .lcf file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your LCF file is.

an lcf container file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with LCF files
- Associate the LCF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open container files. Because only the current version supports the latest LCF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Graphisoft ArchiCAD update.
- To make sure that your LCF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .LCF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
