What is an LCF file?

How can I open an LCF file?

To find out what program is needed to open LCF files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the LCF files comes to the following conclusion:

The LCF file ending is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 45% of all LCF files start with the magic bytes GLCFeÀz, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 4 MB with most files being between 370 KB and 21 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as GLCFe, MAIN and FLDR. Such LCF files store data about macros, library, vicaima, construction, wall, surface, windows and doors.
• 10% of all LCF files start with the magic bytes Logger Compact Data File v1.00 , which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 1 KB. The files contain the following words: Logger Compact Data File. A common filename is 2020-06-01.lcf.

All other LCF files (45%) have different formats, frequently e.g. LICEcap Format lossless video, config, Folio and Copyright.
