What is an LME file?

LME files mostly belong to Lumion. LME files are used by Lumion to store effects settings that control visual aspects in a 3D scene.

How to open an LME file

LME file extension format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the LME files looks like this:

The LME file extension is not widely used. Such a file predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in LME files:

95% of all LME files use the same file format, which have the signature CHIT. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 720 KB to 2 MB. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 8ICSIINIC, CHIT, CHLC, ICIC, ICTD, ICUD, IIET, IIIT, INITIIPM, ISP2ICSD, CHNW, CHNA, FX STACK and IICT. Examples of file names are Exterior_Render_Settings.lme. These files can be linked to render, exterior, settings, interior, thilina, effect, night and lumion.
3% of all LME files are using the well-known CAP file format to store the data. CAP files are compressed archives. The first bytes (the signature) are 'MSCF' (short for MicroSoft Cabinet File). These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. LME files can be up to 7 MB in size, but are often around 280 KB - 7 MB.
