What is an MFI file?

MFI files mostly belong to 7-Zip. MFI files do not refer to a single type of file. They are used in several ways, depending on the software that created them.
The largest group uses the 7-Zip compressed archive format. These files work as compressed containers and sometimes store anti‐malware data, and details can be found on the 7-Zip website.
Other uses include:

How can I open an MFI file?

You need a suitable software like 7-Zip to open an MFI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MFI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MFI file directly in the browser:.
