What is an MJ file?

MJ files mostly belong to MediaJoy. MJ files are video files that use the Motion JPEG format. They store video by encoding each frame as an individual JPEG image, making the video a sequence of still images played quickly in order.

This file type is common in MediaJoy applications for simple video playback.

A variant of MJ files is produced by VideoJet software and is sometimes used as a backup file in systems like DJI FlightHub.

How can I open an MJ file?

You need a suitable software like MediaJoy to open an MJ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. MJ file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the MJ files looks like this:

MJ is not a commonly used file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 75% of all MJ files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 FF 00 FF 00 00 00 00 02. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. MJ files can be up to 250 MB in size, but are often around 55 KB - 49 MB. The file type is relatively new. The keywords JFIF are typical for these files. An example of a file name is 2020-06-01 10_30.mj.
• 5% of all MJ files start with the magic bytes fMJ , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 40 MB. The files contain the following words: fMJ. An example of a file name is op.mj.
