What is an MRT file?

MRT files mostly belong to Hyper-V by Microsoft. An MRT file is a modifiable region table which Hyper-V virtualization software uses to track changes such as host system crashes or power failure. By saving the most up-to-date system changes to an MRT file, Hyper-V ensures changes are not missed. Another type of MRT file is a report generated by Stimulsoft Designer reporting software. Stimulsoft reporting tools are also available as software libraries that can be embedded in WinForms, JavaScript, PHP, .NET, and Java applications. The contents of an MRT report file are saved as XML-encoded data.

How to open MRT files

You need a suitable software like Hyper-V to open an MRT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK.
