MTR file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the MTR files:
The file type with the extension 'MTR' includes very many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all MTR files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also called Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The file contains sections that are named something like ComponentInfo, Data, Header, Version, DataTableMainStorage, EnvironmentStorage, RandomStorage and RepositoryParamStorage. The files are 5 KB to 12 KB in size, with a median of 7 KB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. Examples of file names are Resource.mtr or Parameters.mtr.
- 8% of all MTR files start with the bytes "File : , which are crucial for this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are 21 KB to 120 KB in size, with a median of 50 KB. The keywords File, "Sample : - ", "Span : 0,0", "Thickness : 0,0", "Width : 0,0", DEBEN, DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS, GILLES, MICROTEST, MY DOCUMENTS, "Start Sampletime, WBPU and MTR saved 23 are typical for these files. Files like these are about sample and wbpu.
All other MTR files (77%) have no uniform format, often e.g. SQL, config, ZIP, XML and Version. Sometimes used for axis, parameter, micromax, logfile, codes or meter. If you want to find out which format your MTR file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .mtr file to analyze".
