How to open MWI files

You need a suitable software like Micro-Manager to open an MWI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the MWI files:

The MWI file extension is not found very often and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 70% of all MWI files have the same signature 01 00 00 00. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. Most of these files are 120 bytes to 180 bytes in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The keywords calib, name, object, over, Capture and overlayItems are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: capture, tiff and sample.
• 10% of all MWI files store the data in the SQL file format. An SQL file contains a lightweight SQLite database, widely used in application development for storing application related data. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. MWI files can be up to 780 KB in size, but are often around 40 KB - 780 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as SQLite format 3. Examples of file names are ECG 60 Hz Noise.mwi. Files like these are sometimes connected to physiology.
