What is an NC1 file?

NC1 files mostly belong to Tekla Structures by Trimble. An NC1 file contains CNC commands which control machine tools in computer-aided steel fabrication, cutting, and drilling applications. It comprises toolpaths, coordinates, part faces, as well as laser cutting, drilling, and nesting instructions saved in in the DSTV format developed by Deutsche Stahlbau-Verband steel construction association. NC and NC1 files saved in DSTV format are essentially the same. Only the filename extensions differ. Like NC files, an NC1 file stores CNC code as ASCII text. Computer-aided design/manufacturing programs such as Tekla Structures, SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, and Fastcam can create, edit, and export CNC code saved in an NC1 file.

How can I open an NC1 file?

You need a suitable software like Tekla Structures to open an NC1 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NC1 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NC1 file directly in the browser:.
