All about OP Files
The OP file type is primarily associated with NOAA NCEI.
What is an OP file?
FilExt.com tip: If a file does not open with your expected program, consider using a file analysis tool to check its header and structure. This can help decide whether to treat it as a compressed archive, a specialized data file, or an optimized document.
How can I open an OP file?
You need a suitable software like NOAA NCEI to open an OP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert OP files:
- NOAA NCEI
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. OP files are often referred to as NOAA NCEI data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Origin (Preprocessed Origin C File) by OriginLab CorporationOrigin is scientific graphing and data analysis software. The .OP file is compiled source code for Origin C programs developed to execute a specific custom task in Origin.
- Rescue Disk File
OP file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the OP files is as follows:
The OP file type includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 65% of all OP files start with the magic bytes STN--- WBAN YEARMODA TEMP DEWP SLP, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 4 KB to 50 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following keywords are characteristic: STN--- WBAN YEARMODA TEMP DEWP SLP STP VISIB WDSP MXSPD GUST MAX MIN PRCP SNDP FRSHTT. The file name 20180601-99999-2019.op is characteristic of these files.
- 10% of all OP files use the ZIP format, the OP file contains a number of compressed files. The 2 to 16 compressed files are called info.toml, info.toml.sig, \Source\Main.as and \Source\Main.as.sig. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are 1 KB to 300 KB in size, with a median of 18 KB. The files contain the following words: info and Source/PK. An example of a file name is Dashboard.op or MXRandom.op. Files like these are sometimes connected to afkqueue and counter.
All the rest of the OP files (25%) have different formats, such as PDF. Files like these are sometimes linked to scrn or hipaa. Just click the "Choose your .op file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your OP file is.
Technical Data for OP File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\eSignal\WinSig.Exe
an op data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with OP files
- Associate the OP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest OP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available NOAA NCEI update.
- To make sure that your OP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
