What is a PAN file?

PAN files mostly belong to PVsyst by PVsyst. A PAN file is a database created by Panorama spreadsheet application. Another type of PAN file is a database containing photovoltaic module definitions used by PVsyst photovoltaic module design software. Chromeleon chromatography instrument control software uses a PAN file to store its control panel settings. CorelDRAW graphics design suite and imaging software saves printer-specific settings in a PAN file. The Panorama Factory image stitching program saves a panoramic image project in a PAN file.

How to open PAN files

You need a suitable software like PVsyst to open a PAN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PAN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PAN file directly in the browser:. How to convert PAN files to JPG, PDF, HTML, DOC, ...

1. To do so, click the "Choose your .pan file to view this image" button above.
2. After your file is opened in browser,

4. Then click the file format (e.g. PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...) you want.

PAN file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the PAN files produces the following result:

PAN is one of the most common file extensions and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all PAN files are based on the well-known UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes  (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. PAN files are between 1 KB and 2 KB in size. The file type was created recently. The files contain the following words: Flags=$0041, Manufacturer, PVObject_=pvModule, PVObject_Com, PVObject_Commercial, Version, pvCommercial, Model, Comment, Solar, com and China. Such PAN files store data about talesun, longi, risen, solar, jinko, bmdg, wsmd and perc.
• 30% of all PAN files start with the magic bytes PVObject_=pvModule, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 1 KB to 1.9 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: Flags=$0041, Manufacturer, PVObject_=pvModule, PVObject_Com, PVObject_Commercial, Version, pvCommercial, Model, Comment and Solar. Files like these are about qcells, qpeak, suntech, draft, vsun and cdte.

The remaining 30% of all PAN files are different files with different signatures, the following 10 formats exist: Pandore Object, pvModule, IPSM and CScenarioAtt.
