Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. • 5% of all PANEL files use the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). Sections and streams in the file are named Panel, arrow_blue.png, arrow_log_bow.png, arrow_log_port.png, arrow_log_st.png, arrow_log_stbd.png, arrow_pitch_roll.png, arrow_white.png, bg_general.png, bg_grey_460.png, bg_horison.png, bg_ps_460.png, bg_roll.png, bg_sb_460.png, bg_transparent_1.png, bg_transparent_355.png, bg_vessel.png, scale_0_180.png, scale_notch_0_10.png, scale_numeral_0_10.png and scale_roll.png. The files are on average 700 KB in size and range from 600 KB to 960 KB.
