What is a PGF file?

PGF files mostly belong to libPGF by xeraina GmbH. PGF filename extension is mainly associated with bitmapped images saved in Progressive Graphics File (PGF) format. Images stored in PGF format are compressed with a wavelet compression standard that supports lossless and lossy image compression. PGF supports a range of color models including grayscale (1, 8, 16, and 32 bits per pixel), RGB, ARGB, 256 color palette, CMYK, and L*a*b. Some programs that can be used to open PGF files include Digikam, Photo Gallery, and libPGF. A different PGF file format was used to save 240x64 pixels bitmap pictures on Atari operating system. GPS Pathfinder Office, a suite of Global Navigation Satellite System processing tools, saves geoid grid data in PGF files. File selections made by PowerGREP (a data search tool) are also saved in PGF files. Matplotlib, a data plotting library for Python programming language exports plots and figures as images and drawing commands saved in PGF files.

How to open a PGF file

You need a suitable software like libPGF to open a PGF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PGF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PGF file directly in the browser:.
