How to open a PFG file

To find out what program is needed to open PFG files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. The PFG file extension is not common and includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 35% of all PFG files use the same file format, which have the signature [Tree Version] Tree Version=28 [File Type] Type. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The average file size is 50 KB with most files being between 39 KB and 89 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: DateAndTime, SampleTime, Samples, Tree Version=28, Type=pfg, [File Type], [Graph], [Tree Version], VINNumber=, Counter=0, PFSerialNumber, CellID=0, PFID=0 and JobID=0. • 15% of all PFG files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "02 00 00 00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 31 KB with most files being between 4 KB and 230 KB in size.
