What is a PGP file

PGP files mostly belong to Endpoint Encryption by Broadcom. A PGP file is a key/signature, private keyring, or a public key block encrypted or signed with Endpoint Encryption (previously Pretty Good Privacy). A PGP file containing a digital signature or key is used to authenticate users, verify data, and perform other cryptography operations. GnuPG, OpenPGP, and other Endpoint Encryption alternatives can also create PGP keys and encrypted documents. Another type of PGP file is a program parameter used by AutoCAD computer-aided architectural design software.

How to open a PGP file

You need a suitable software like Endpoint Encryption to open a PGP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The PGP file extension is very common and does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in PGP files:

20% of all PGP files are PGP message files. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. PGP files can be up to 58 MB in size, but are often around 730 bytes - 540 KB. The file type was created recently. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE---- and Version. A usual file name is Message.pgp. These files are often associated with signature, export, data, public, backup, proton, report and pass.
10% of all PGP files have the same signature 85 01. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 4 KB in size and range from 390 bytes to 1 MB. A common filename is credential.pgp. Such PGP files store data about extract, anlac, xlsx, daily, json and ppsc.

All other PGP files (70%) have different formats, often, for example, PGP symmetric key encrypted message, Pretty Good Privacy Private/Secret Keyring, certificate, ZIP, PDF, XML, DOC, PGP, MII, object and Version. These files sometimes refer to openpgp, foxmail, docx, documents, attachment, claveprivada or fiel. How to solve problems with PGP files

Associate the PGP file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open signed/encrypted data/keys. Because only the current version supports the latest PGP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Broadcom manufacturer website after an available Endpoint Encryption update.
