Opening SIG Files
The SIG file type is primarily associated with Outlook.
What is a SIG file?
How to open SIG files
You need a suitable software like Outlook to open a SIG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SIG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SIG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SIG files:
- Outlook by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SIG files are often referred to as Outlook simple text files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- a-squared (anti-malware signature) by Emsia-squared was an anti-malware, anti-trojan, anti-spyware, anti-worm, and anti-dialer solution. By using a signature-based onExecution scanner and behavior-based malware-IDs, a-squared was able to quickly detect and neutralize digital threats on a PC. Its anti-malware signature was stored in a SIG file. This file format is classified as Data.
- Creatacard (fax cover sheet, form, sign, or poster) by BroderbundCreatacard is a desktop publishing software that is mainly used to create greeting cards. Posters, forms, and signs created with older versions of the program were stored in SIG format. Newer versions of Creatacard do not support SIG format. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
- Endpoint Security (signature) by BraodcomEndpoint Security (usually called Symantec Endpoint Protection) is a comprehensive antimalware/anti-spyware program. It uses Pretty Good Privacy technology to sign documents and encrypt/decrypt disk partitions or network communications. Signatures used to sign and authenticate documents in Endpoint Security are stored in SIG files. This file format is classified as Encoded. Related links: GnuPP (German site)
- IDA (signature) by Ilfak GuilfanovIDA (short for Interactive Disassembler) is a cross-platform, programmable disassembler for generating assembly code, analyzing potentially hostile code, and performing vulnerability research. Signatures used to sign and authenticate source code, user data, and other resources in IDA are stored in SIG files. This file format is classified as Developer.
- Panda (signature) by PandaPanda is a cloud-based antivirus software that provides real-time protection against malware or spyware that may attack a user's device. Signatures used to sign and authenticate communication between Panda clients and servers are saved in SIG files. This file format is classified as Data.
- Powersim Studio (simulation) by PowersimPowersim Studio is an integrated environment for building and running simulation models. Simulations created with this program are saved in SIG files. This file format is classified as Data.
- Print Shop (signs, forms, and faxsheets) by BroderbundPrint Shop is a cross-platform desktop publishing software with a large library of design templates and clip-arts that can be used to easily create posters, signs, forms, calendars etc. Signs, forms, and fax sheets created with classic versions of Print Shop were saved in SIG files. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
- PRISM (data) by NicoletPRISM was a laboratory equipment produced by Nicolet. It used data files saved in SIG format. This file format is classified as Data.
- QuickTac (braille image) by DuxburyQuickTac is a program that converts graphics and text into a grid of dots that can be printed and read by persons with impaired eyesight. Braille graphics created by QuickTac are stored in SIG files. This file format is classified as Raster Image. Related links: Duxbury DBT: Braille Translation Software

SIG format details:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the SIG files:
The SIG extension is very commonly found and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all SIG files use the popular certificate file format. A digital certificate is a unique, digitally signed document which authoritatively identifies the identity of an individual or organization. Using public key cryptography, its authenticity can be verified to ensure that the software or website you are using is legitimate. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 2 KB to 8 KB. It is a modern file type. Files like these are sometimes connected to report, ofsite, docx, other, docs, notification, epolicy, statement, spisob and spkr.
- 7% of all SIG files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). Sections and streams in the file have names like Contents and PMW Document. SIG files can be up to 49 MB in size, but are often around 28 KB - 1 MB. Files like these are about page, christmas, attitude, constitution, cover and flyer.
All other SIG files (53%) have no consistent format, such as Adobe Application Manager Package Signature, JFIF, PDF, ZIP, Java, Source, MII, Mozilla, TStamp, EHFA and Ver. Files like these are sometimes linked to windows, installer, client, pakchunk, noeditor or setup. If you want to find out which format your SIG file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .sig file to analyze".

a sig signature is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SIG files
- Associate the SIG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open signatures. Because only the current version supports the latest SIG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Outlook update.
- To make sure that your SIG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SIG file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
