What is a PGX file

PGX files mostly belong to Staubli VAL3.

PGX files can refer to different specialized file types. They may be Staubli robot program files that use an XML format, holding instructions for industrial robots. These files are read by programs in the Staubli VAL3 Robotics Suite (Staubli Robotics).
Other PGX files are used as Portable Graymap Format image files. They are part of the PageMan image file format and are often viewed with tools like PGX Viewer or XnViewMP.
Another usage is as a Cimon Designer file. This version is used within the Cimon environment on Windows for panel or display set-ups.

How do you open PGX files?

You need a suitable software like Staubli VAL3 to open a PGX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PGX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PGX file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the PGX files produces the following result:

The PGX file extension is rather rarely used and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all PGX files use the popular XML file format. The file name start.pgx or stop.pgx is typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: init.
• 25% of all PGX files start with the magic bytes Cimon for Windows by KDT., which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The average file size is 220 KB with most files being between 7 KB and 2 MB in size. The files contain the following words: Cimon for Windows by KDT, Designer and LEAD. A common filename is MAIN.PGX. Such PGX files store data about page.
