What is a PKPASS file?

PKPASS files mostly belong to Wallet by Apple. A PKPASS file is a digital coupon, movie/concert tickets, boarding pass, or payment receipt managed by the Wallet application on the iPhone. It is a ZIP archive containing a signature, logos and icons, and JSON documents containing pass and manifest information rendered as a QR code which can be scanned. The digital item saved in a PKPASS file is usually provided by vendors (e.g. transport agencies, fast food joints, cinemas etc.) over email. iOS can add this PKPASS file to the Wallet and have it scanned at physical or virtual terminals to gain access to a product or service.

How can I open a PKPASS file?

You need a suitable software like Wallet from Apple to open a PKPASS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PKPASS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application.
