PM4 file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the PM4 files:
An PM4 file is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:
- 80% of all PM4 files are associated with Aldus PageMaker document. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 21 KB to 530 KB in size, with a median of 100 KB. The file type was used 20 years ago. These files are often associated with gachis, feii, chap and cursillo.
- 3% of all PM4 files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". The file contains sections Contents. The average file size is 950 KB with most files being between 70 KB and 4 MB in size.
All other PM4 files (17%) have no uniform format, often e.g. File and Begin. Files like these are sometimes linked to pmkm, pfra or cstr. You can get all the details of your PM4 file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pm4 file to analyze" above.
