4 Steps to Open an Unknown .PR0 File
Because .PR0 files come from different programs, they aren't universally openable.
- Identify the Source: Files from HR or accountants often contain company payroll data. Files from developers might be sequential project profiles.
- Check the Header: Inspect the first bytes in a text editor or hex viewer:
- Readable XML/JSON suggests a configuration file.
- "PK" indicates a zipped archive.
- Binary data points to proprietary formats.
- Use the Original Software: The original program is usually required, such as CheckMark Payroll or specific development tools; ask the sender if uncertain.
- Use this Webpage: Drag and drop the file into our viewer to detect the format, extract readable text or metadata, and preview when possible.
PR0 file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the PR0 files looks like this:
PR0 is rarely used as a file extension and mainly uses a special format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 90% of all PR0 files are DCS device Profile files, which are based on the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. PR0 files can be up to 240 KB in size, but are often around 3 KB - 110 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. [controllers, version, profile and 0x00000005. Default.pr0 or WITCHER III.pr0 is a typical file name. Such files are related to witcher.
All other PR0 files (10%) have no consistent format. If you want to find out what your PR0 file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
