What is a PSG file

PSG files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. A PSG file contains a graphics library used to create graphics designs in The Print Shop Deluxe. PSG is also the filename extension of a renamed Photoshop document. Another type of PSG file contains information about a passage plan created with Visual Passage Planner 2 off-shore passage planning software. Visual Passage Planner uses the official NOAA pilot chart data to evaluate passage plans created by navigators. Users may import and view a PSG file with Visual Passage Planner 2 (VPP2).

How to open a PSG file

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open a PSG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PSG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PSG file directly in the browser:. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the PSG files is as follows:

The file type with the extension 'PSG' includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in PSG files are:

• 25% of all PSG files use the popular UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. PSG files can be up to 3 KB in size, but are often around 210 bytes - 1 KB. It is a modern file type. Some examples of file names are -1.psg.
• 20% of all PSG files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "5A 00" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 28 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. @@@@@@@@Z.
