What is a PUG file

PUG files mostly belong to Pug. Purpose: PUG files are used as HTML templating files that the Pug engine converts into standard HTML.
Main points:

How to open a PUG file

The PUG file type is a very commonly used file extension and covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 25% of all PUG files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "extends " at the beginning. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. PUG files can be up to 57 KB in size, but are often around 200 bytes - 7 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords layout, block content, extends, title and page are typical for these files. The file name index.pug is characteristic of these files. Such files sometimes refer to dashboard, account, about and login.
• 25% of all PUG files start with the bytes doctype crucial for this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are often between 250 bytes and 11 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. head, doctype html, meta, content, utf-8, charset, name, lang, title, width, device-width, viewport and http-equiv. An example of a file name is index.pug or html.pug. Files like these are about layout.

All other PUG files (50%) have no consistent format, the following 8 formats can be found: HTML, head and var.
