What is a QMG file?
QMG files mostly belong to Theme Designer by Samsung. QMG is a proprietary file format for saving images and animations used in Samsung's Android mobile phone themes. A QMG file may contain a standalone image used as an a theme wallpaper, icon, button, logo or it may contain a single frame-by-frame animation displayed during the startup, shutdown, or charging of the phone. When users create custom themes (SMT files) using Theme Designer, the QMG files will be packaged into the SMT file alongside the XML file containing information about how, when, and where each QMG file should be displayed. Samsung's stock ROMs save the bootanimation.qmg file in the system/media directory, while the shutdown.qmg animation is saved in the system/media/video/shutdown directory.
How to open a QMG file
You need a suitable software like Theme Designer from Samsung to open a QMG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your QMG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a QMG file directly in the browser:. Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. - 10% of all QMG files start with the magic bytes 51 47 01, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 140 KB. Such files are related to wallpaper.
