What is a QPD file?

QPD files mostly belong to MagiCAD. The QPD extension is used for several internal file formats. In one major case, it is a proprietary CAD file format employed by MagiCAD to store ventilation ductwork design data. This file holds drawing elements, geometry, and system data in a binary format that only specialized software can interpret.

How to open QPD files

You need a suitable software like MagiCAD to open a QPD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). The QPD file extension is not widely used. Such a file is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 50% of all QPD files have the same signature 67 00 00 00 00 00 00 00. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. QPD files can be up to 120 MB in size, but are often around 310 KB - 11 MB. The file type is relatively new. Files like these have the following tags: systemair, waterloo, camfil and trox.
• 30% of all QPD files start with the bytes qPrint2 crucial for this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 9 KB and 1 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. qPrint2. The file name DAY BOOK.qpd is characteristic of these files. These files are attributed to sheet and balance.
