What is a QVD file?

QVD files mostly belong to QlikView by Qlik. A QVD file is a database table containing data exported from QlikView data analytics program. The contents of a QVD file comprises three main sections starting with a UTF-8 XML header which describes the layout, fields, and other information in a table. The XML header in a QVD file is followed by symbol tables saved in byte stuffed format. After this comes the actual table fields (data) saved in bit-stuffed format. By encoding data this way, QlikView is able to load data from a QVD file at significantly faster speeds than other data sources/formats.
