What is an RPYC file?

RPYC files mostly belong to Ren'Py by Tom "PyTom" Rothamel. An RPYC file is a game script compiled using Ren'Py visual/interactive novel development and rendering engine. It contains the binary version of an RPY (text based) script which is used during the development of a novel (game). When a developer compiles a game with Ren'Py, it compiles the source code saved in an RPY to an RPYC file in order to obfuscate the contents and reduce the size of the script. This makes it difficult for third-parties to view, copy, or reproduce the novel's source code if the developer decides to publish it.

How to open an RPYC file

You need a suitable software like Ren'Py from Tom "PyTom" Rothamel to open an RPYC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RPYC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RPYC file directly in the browser:.
