What is an RTL file?

RTL files mostly belong to SwiftView by Paperbros. RTL filename extension is associated with printer or plotter files containing bitmap graphics coded in the Raster Transfer Language developed by Hewlett-Packard. This RTL file format is used to embed bitmaps into plotter files compatible with raster-based plotter printers such as the DesignJet series. RTL format supports KCMY, KCMYOG, and KCMYcm color pens with different definitions and the graphics data in the file can be organized in pixel-major or plane-major order. ViewCompanion may be used to view and print RTL files. ArcPress printer engine may be used to process and print large, complex maps saved in RTL file format. RTL is also the filename of some runtime library files used by the compiler bundled with C++ Builder integrated development environment. RTL files that are used by Yahoo! Instant Messenger (instant messaging software) contain sound settings.

How do you open RTL files?

You need a suitable software like SwiftView to open an RTL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RTL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RTL file directly in the browser:. The files contain the following words: -12345X, PJL SET RESOLUTION, HPGL2, PJL ENTER LANGUAGE, PJL JOB NAME, PJL SET VERTICAL RESOLUTION, *t300R, @PJL VUTEK, BBPINPS, PJL VUTEK PRINTER and PUPA0. Such files sometimes refer to white.
15% of all RTL files start with the bytes 1B 45 1B, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. RTL files are between 230 KB and 160 MB in size. These files are often associated with layout.

How to solve problems with RTL files

Associate the RTL file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open bitmaps. Because only the current version supports the latest RTL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Paperbros manufacturer website after an available SwiftView update.
