Opening a RUI File
The RUI file type is primarily associated with Firmware Updater.
What is a RUI file?
For example, one common use is as a router firmware update file. In these instances the file contains coded instructions that the router’s update tool reads to install a firmware upgrade.
A second use appears in the Rhinoceros UI file found in Rhinoceros 3D. These files typically use an XML structure to store user interface configurations.
Another example is for Samsung TV firmware updates, sometimes noted as an IDIS firmware update. For these, the update is applied through the device’s built‐in updater. You can learn more about Samsung firmware downloads at the Samsung support page.
Additionally, a smaller group includes files used as a universal installer for Redis or a Ruby User Interface file.
FilExt.com note: Each case needs the appropriate software tool or device updater to open or apply the file. Using the wrong tool might show unreadable text or even lead to issues with the device.
How to open RUI files
You need a suitable software like Firmware Updater to open a RUI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RUI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RUI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RUI file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the RUI files:
The RUI file extension is not found very often and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all RUI files start with the magic bytes rui, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. RUI files can be up to 85 MB in size, but are often around 25 MB - 71 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The keywords SCCH and Arcadyan are typical for these files. The file name ib2_np_2020-06-01.rui or wb2_2020-06-01.rui is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to normal, flash and multi.
- 20% of all RUI files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. RUI files are between 20 KB and 6 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, guid, minor_ver, localize="False" default_language_id="1033", <RhinoUI major_ver="3", dpi_scale and <extend_rhin. The file name default.rui is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to rhino, toolbar, transform and oblique.
All other RUI files (50%) have different formats, often e.g. OpJ and clG. Often described as idis, prog, bsit, revous or smart. You can get all the details of your RUI file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .rui file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for RUI File Extension

How to solve problems with RUI files
- Associate the RUI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open firmware update packages. Because only the current version supports the latest RUI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Firmware Updater update.
