Opening SDM Files
The SDM file type is primarily associated with Statistica.
What is an SDM file?
How can I open an SDM file?
You need a suitable software like Statistica to open an SDM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SDM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SDM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SDM file extension format:
To view or edit SDM files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the SDM files:
SDM is not a common file extension and covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all SDM files have the same signature 00 39 FD 04 00 02 00 00. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 160 KB and 100 MB in size. The file type is a fairly new file format. The keywords Ver 0.9.39, LibVer and Etc/GMT are typical for these files. Examples of file names are sbuff_20180601.sdm or QB16167703_20180601.sdm.
- 10% of all SDM files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). There is also a globally unique identifier c24cc4e0-73df-101b-804c-fdfdfdfdfdfd or c9e28012-3d45-11d4-9ff4-00c04fa0d540. Sections and streams in the file have names like CompObj, MailDocument, Ole, SfxDocumentInfo, SfxWindows, SummaryInformation and persist elements. The files are often between 8 KB and 2 MB in size.
All other SDM files (65%) have no uniform format, such as ZIP, config and SDS. These files are often connected to csdrmodel or offsets. If you want to find out what your SDM file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with SDM files
- Associate the SDM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open workspaces. Because only the current version supports the latest SDM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the TIBCO manufacturer website after an available Statistica update.
- To make sure that your SDM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SDM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
