What is an SMR file?

SMR files mostly belong to SmartReceipts. SMR files are used in several different contexts.
They can be a Smart Receipts backup file that uses the ZIP format to store receipt data. For these, you might use common archive tools to extract the contents or view them in the SmartReceipts application.
Other SMR files are created by macro recording programs.

• Macro recording: Files from the Small Mouse Recorder or SuperMacroRecorder store recorded mouse and keyboard actions. These files act as a script that can help automate routine tasks.
• Scientific data: Some SMR files are data files generated by CED Spike2 software. They store experimental information used in fields like electrophysiology and are supported by resources such as the CED website.

How can I open an SMR file?

You need a suitable software like SmartReceipts to open an SMR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. SMR file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SMR files is as follows:

An SMR file is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 30% of all SMR files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one SMR file. A typical number of included files is 26. File names inside are receipts_backup.db and \shared_prefs\. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. SMR files are between 28 KB and 30 MB in size. Files like these are about receipts and smart.
• 20% of all SMR files have the same signature HSCRYPT32o\»¢.. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. SMR files can be up to 10 KB in size, but are often around 820 bytes - 4 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: HSCRYPT32o\. A common filename is yugi.smr.
