Opening SPA Files
The SPA file type is primarily associated with OMNIC.
What is an SPA file?
How to open an SPA file
You need a suitable software like OMNIC to open an SPA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SPA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SPA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SPA file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the SPA files comes to the following conclusion:
SPA is a very common file type and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in SPA files are:
- 60% of all SPA files are associated with Spectral Data. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 10 KB to 160 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. The files contain the following words: Spectral Data File. Such SPA files store data about sample, ftir, background, unknown, acid, spectra, plastik, black and neat.
- 20% of all SPA files use the ZIP algorithm, multiple files are compressed and combined into one SPA file. An SPA file includes 4 to 18 files. Common included file names are index.html and manifest.json. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. The files are 410 KB to 1 MB in size, with a median of 640 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as index.htmlUT. about.spa or settings.spa is a typical file name. Such files sometimes refer to playlist, login, collection, artist, lyrics and xpui.
All the rest of the SPA files (20%) have different formats, such as PNG, ANRITSU, spa, Template and APS. Often described as folder, zlink, profile, browse, buddy or list. If you want to find out which format your SPA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .spa file to analyze".

How to solve problems with SPA files
- Associate the SPA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open spectra data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SPA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the ThermoFisher manufacturer website after an available OMNIC update.
- To make sure that your SPA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SPA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
