What is an SSL file?

SSL files mostly belong to Fallout Script Editor by Bethesda. An SSL file is a script created with tools such as Fallout Script Editor. It contains commands which control the behavior of non-player characters, objects, maps and other elements in Fallout video game. An SSL file must be compiled to an INT file before using it in the game. How to open SSL files

SSL file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the SSL files comes to the following conclusion:

SSL is rarely used as a file extension and covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 30% of all SSL files are using the well-known UTF-16 (LE) file format to store the data. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. SSL files are between 2 KB and 39 KB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ProgMode, SetupFile=0, [Common], EasySense Data File, Datamode and [Graphical].
• 6% of all SSL files start with the bytes D4 20 82 2B 4D 61 D4 FB 8C 5B 30 40, which are crucial for this file format. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 2 KB.

All other SSL files (64%) have no uniform format, the following 4 formats can be found: Corel Flow Smart Library and Jing Tao pic format bitmap.
