Opening an SSZ File
The SSZ file type is primarily associated with Saint Seiya Soldiers' Soul Modding Tool.
What is an SSZ file?
FilExt.com notes: If your SSZ file is a game mod archive, you can often rename it to .zip and open it with a standard archive utility. For scripting files, use a text editor that supports UTF-8. For installer files, use the official PSS updater tool.

SSZ file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the SSZ files:
SSZ is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in SSZ files:
- 35% of all SSZ files are based on the zip format, i.e. an SSZ file contains several compressed files. Such a ZIP file contains 6 to 110 files with names like avatar.dds, icon_big.dds, icon_small.dds, preview.png, sszmod.xml, \battle_name\left_EN.dds, \battle_name\right_EN.dds and \gw\banner.dds. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. SSZ files can be up to 180 MB in size, but are often around 1 MB - 32 MB. Such files are related to cloth, shiryu, seiya, dragon, plain and 3D model.
- 20% of all SSZ files internally utilize the Source file format. A source code is the set of instructions written by a programmer using a computer programming language like JavaScript, C++ or Basic. This code is translated into machine language by a compiler. The translated result is called app, program or executable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 210 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. const float Attack_LifeToPowerMul = 0.7;, const float GetHit_LifeToPowe, const int AfterImageMax = 8;, const int ExplodMax = 256;, const int HelperMax = 56; and const int PlayerProjectileMax = 50;. A usual file name is config.ssz or char.ssz.
All other SSZ files (45%) have different formats, the following 4 formats can be found: zlib and PSS. If you want to find out which format your SSZ file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ssz file to analyze".
