What is an STH file

STH files mostly belong to WebSphere Application Server by IBM. An STH file is a stash containing the password of a keyring KYR file used by applications such as Domino email server and WebSphere Application Server. A keyring is a password-protected collection of private/public keys and certificates which allow the email server to securely communicate with its Notes email client. Domino uses the password in an STH file for unattended access to the keyring (KYR file). Chrome web browser uses a different type of STH file to save data. Another type of STH file contains a cross stitch design created with KG-Chart cross stitch design software for Windows.

How do you open STH files?

You need a suitable software like WebSphere Application Server to open an STH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly.
