All about RDB Files
The RDB file type is primarily associated with Redis.
What is an RDB file?
How to open RDB files
You need a suitable software like Redis to open an RDB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RDB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RDB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RDB file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the RDB files:
RDB is one of the most common file extensions and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 35% of all RDB files start with the bytes REDIS000 crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 92 bytes to 16 MB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. The files contain the following words: ctime, redis-bits, redis-ver, used-mem, aof-preamble and REDIS0009. The file name dump.rdb is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to redis, export, memorystore, prod, cache, mosquitto, whatsapp, staging and backup.
- 20% of all RDB files are using the well-known SQL file format to store the data. An SQL file contains a lightweight SQLite database, widely used in application development for storing application related data. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 65 KB to 17 MB. The keywords SQLite format 3 are typical for these files. Some examples of file names are AuditTrail0.rdb. Files like these are about alarm, data, trend and panel.
The remaining 45% of all RDB files are files with no common format, such as DOC, JetDB, RARCHDB, DRK, KYP, DCA, shd, DUMP and Copyright. Sometimes used for nintendo, editor, station, character, play or sony. You can get all the details of your RDB file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .rdb file to view" above.

an rdb database snapshot (backup) is a special file format by Redis Labs and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RDB files
- Associate the RDB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database snapshot (backup)s. Because only the current version supports the latest RDB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Redis Labs manufacturer website after an available Redis update.
- To make sure that your RDB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RDB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
