What is a SUIT file?

SUIT files mostly belong to Font Book by Apple. A SUIT file is a font suitcase used by older versions of macOS operating system. It contains TrueType font data saved in the resource fork instead of the data fork of a macOS system. Although SUIT files enjoy limited support on newer versions of macOS, changes introduced in macOS Big Sur make it impossible to import a SUIT file over a network without losing all contents of the file. For this reason, it's best to convert a SUIT font to a different format or wrap it in a ZIP archive when importing it over a network.

How to open a SUIT file

You need a suitable software like Font Book from Apple to open a SUIT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SUIT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SUIT file directly in the browser:. The SUIT file extension is not common and mainly uses a defined SUIT format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 75% of all SUIT files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 05 16. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 7 KB to 120 KB in size, with a median of 39 KB. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. The keywords FFILDMOV, Mac OS X, suit and ATTR are typical for these files. Such files sometimes refer to bold, light, medium, condensed, akkurat, regular, italic and black.
