What is an SXC file?

SXC files mostly belong to Calc by Apache. An SXC file is a spreadsheet created by the Calc spreadsheet processing application in StarOffice and OpenOffice productivity software suites. SXC format was introduced in StarOffice and OpenOffice version 1.x and supported until version 2.x. The SXC spreadsheet is actually a compressed ZIP archive containing XML-encoded data, settings, layout, formulae, and other information which make up sheets (tables), charts, and objects in a spreadsheet. Newer versions of Calc can still open but cannot create an SXC spreadsheet.

How do you open SXC files?

You need a suitable software like Calc to open an SXC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SXC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SXC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the SXC files produces the following result:

an sxc spreadsheet is a special file format by Apache and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with SXC files

  • Associate the SXC file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open spreadsheets. Because only the current version supports the latest SXC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apache manufacturer website after an available Calc update.
  • To make sure that your SXC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .SXC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
